As Lent begins, many Christians around the world are already looking ahead to Easter, one of the most important celebrations in Christianity. But when exactly will Easter 2025 take place?
In 2025, Easter Sunday falls on April 20 for both Western (Catholic and Protestant) and Eastern Orthodox Christians. While these branches of Christianity sometimes celebrate Easter on different dates, in 2025, they coincide.

Why does Easter’s date change every year?
Unlike Christmas, which is fixed on December 25, Easter follows a movable calendar based on the lunar cycle. The date is determined by a formula set by the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD.
Easter falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the Spring Equinox (March 20). This means Easter can be observed anywhere between March 22 and April 25.
The Orthodox Church typically celebrates Easter on a different date due to its use of the Julian calendar, but in 2025, both calendars align.
