Unknown gunmen kill female lecturer in FUTMinna

Adefolalu Funmilola Sherifat, female lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry, Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna, Niger State has been murdered by suspected gunmen in her residence in the Gbaiko community of Bosso Local Council.

Gbolahan Bolarin, chairperson of the Academic Staff Union of the University (ASUU) FUT chapter, confirmed the death of Sherifat to reporters.

Bolarin explained that her body was discovered on Sunday, October 29, at about 10:00 a.m., when her church members visited her home after she was not seen during the church service, and she could not be reached on the phone.

The university lecturer decried the level of insecurity in the state and fears that nobody knows who the next target would be.

“The level of insecurity in the state is quite disturbing and something urgent must be done because we know the next target,” he said.

According to an eyewitness account, some of the lecturer’s neighbours told reporters that after forcing open the door to her house, the church members found her in a pool of blood with her throat slit and two knives beside her.

Wasiu Abiodun, spokesperson for Niger State Police Command also confirmed the killing and said that the body of the late lecturer had been taken to Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB) Specialist Hospital Minna, where it was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

He assured that the command would not relent with its investigation to find out the perpetrators of the evil act. Besides, he said that the lecturer’s remains have been deposited at the mortuary.

According to a recent report, a principal suspect has been arrested. It was learned the mother of the suspect handed her over to the police when she arrived home in the early hours of Tuesday, October 31, 2023, after being on the run since the day the murder was committed.
