Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has announced a donation of N60 million to the families of slain policemen killed by hoodlums in the state.
Udom announced the donation when he paid a visit to the Head office of the state police command in Ikot Akpan Abia, near Uyo, the state capital.
The visit, he said was to condole with the command over the loss of men and assets due to the recent security issues witnessed in the state.
He announced a donation of the sum of N60 Million for the families of the policemen who lost their breadwinners in this state.
Receiving the governor, the commissioner of police, Amiengheme Andrew informed the Governor that the command has lost 21 personnel, 11 vehicles, 7 firearms, et cetera.
He said that the morale of the men is lifted by the governor’s visit.
The policemen expressed appreciation to the governor for the visit and donation.
They promised to do all within their powers to bring an end to the new wave of criminality in the state.

According to checks, two police outposts that were not in operational use, located at Mkpanak in Essien Udim and Ikot Odon in Abak local government areas were attacked by hoodlums.
It was gathered that at Ikot Odon, a scrap vehicle parked outside and a motorcycle inside were burnt, but the building was not razed down.
The youths Mkpanak were said to have ‘quickly put out the fire meant to set the building ablaze,’ while a little part of it was however affected.
A police officer, Sgt Obadia Eli, attached to Mopol 57 Ukana, who was on his way to his beat was accosted and killed, the police said.
The state police command in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Odiko Macdon, SP, maintained that “in spite all this, the command remains undaunted and committed to the provision of security in all parts of Akwa Ibom State.”
He said the command has evolved strategies to address “the present challenges,” and called on residents of good conscience to continue to partner with the Police “to end the senseless destruction of lives and property in the State.”
