Grief and uncertainty have gripped residents of Dokan Mai-Jama’a in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State after a violent rainstorm, killing two people and destroying more than 50 houses, leaving dozens of families homeless.

“I have nowhere to take my children,” a distraught resident said, as victims were seen salvaging what remained of their belongings and seeking temporary shelter from neighbours and relatives.

The storm, which struck at about 6:41 p.m. on Monday, lasted over 40 minutes, tearing off rooftops, flattening buildings and displacing families across communities.

The Village Head of Dokan Mai-Jama’a, Alhaji Hamisu Tukur, confirmed the incident, noting that over fifty houses were severely affected, with many completely destroyed.

A visit to the area showed scenes of devastation as household heads struggled to secure shelter for their families amid worsening conditions. Many victims exposed to the elements, face an uncertain future.

Residents have, therefore, appealed to the Kaduna State Government, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the State Emergency Management Agency for urgent intervention and relief materials.

The destruction extended to nearby Sabon Gyero Community in Millennium City, where several houses were damaged and more than ten perimeter fences pulled down by the storm.

Eyewitnesses also reported that the heavy rainfall caused major traffic disruptions, blocking key roads and forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.

Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has deployed an assessment team to Dokan Mai-Jama’a to evaluate the scale of destruction and determine immediate support for affected residents.
