Operation Hadin Kai has recorded a significant breakthrough in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign following the surrender of two senior commanders to troops of Sector 2 in the Geidam axis of Yobe State. Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Media Information Officer for the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), announced the development to journalists in Maiduguri on Tuesday, confirming the individuals surrendered on 4 July 2026.

The surrendered terrorists, identified as Munzirs within the insurgent leadership structure, arrived in Maiduguri at approximately 1930 hours on 5 July 2026. They are currently in military custody, where they are undergoing detailed profiling, debriefing, and intelligence exploitation.

Intelligence gains from high-level surrender

Preliminary interrogation indicates that the two commanders held influential positions, granting them extensive knowledge of the group’s operational activities, command arrangements, and logistics architecture. Initial intelligence obtained from the debriefing has provided valuable insights into the terrorists’ operational methods, sustainment mechanisms, and support networks.

Authorities expect this information to significantly enhance ongoing intelligence-led operations aimed at locating, disrupting, and dismantling remaining terrorist enclaves across the North East Theatre. The military noted that the surrender of these commanders represents a major setback for the terrorist faction and validates the effectiveness of sustained offensive operations conducted by Operation Hadin Kai.

Military pressure eroding insurgent command

Relentless military pressure, supported by coordinated land and air operations and enhanced intelligence efforts, continues to deny terrorists freedom of movement. These actions are successfully degrading their combat capability and eroding their command and control structures.

Captain Goni noted that terrorist leaders and fighters are finding continued resistance untenable, which is compelling them to abandon the insurgency and surrender to government troops.
