President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the name of Muttaqha Rabe-Darma to the Senate for confirmation as a minister, filling the vacancy left by the exit of former minister Ahmed Dangiwa.
The request was conveyed in a letter read during plenary on Wednesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who informed lawmakers that the nomination was made in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
In the letter, the President wrote, “I am pleased to forward to the Senate for confirmation the nomination of Muttaqha Rabe-Darma as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He added, “While I hope this request will receive the expeditious consideration of the Senate, please accept, Distinguished Senate President and Distinguished Senators, the assurances of my highest regards.”
The nomination comes amid ongoing adjustments within the executive arm, following recent changes in the Federal Executive Council.
The nomination comes barely 24 hours after the resignation of Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and Ahmed Dangiwa, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, from the cabinet.
A statement issued on Tuesday by Yomi Odunuga, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, said the development was contained in a memo signed by George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
According to the memo, Taiwo Oyedele has been appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, while Rabe-Darma is to serve as Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development, subject to Senate confirmation.
