Former Liverpool and Barcelona star Luis Suarez has been linked with a potential move to US MLS side Inter Miami that will see the Uruguayan forward reunited with former teammate Lionel Messi after dumping Brazilian side Gremio.

Suarez left the Brazilian side at the end of the 2023 season after scoring 24 goals and providing 17 assists in 52 games in all competitions.

Suárez’s contract with the Brazilian team ends in December 2023, making him a free agent to negotiate with the club of his choice. Reports have been of him linking up with his friend Messi and David Beckham’s Inter Miami on January 1, 2024.

According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Inter Miami will initiate contact with Suarez to sign him before the start of the 2024 MLS season.

“Inter Miami is determined to close the deal with Luis Suarez in the coming weeks as he leaves Gremio as a free agent,” Romano wrote on his Twitter account.

MLS side Inter Miami have been mentioned as potential suitors for his services in a move that would see the veteran reunited with friend and former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi. However, he has now put a switch to the US in doubt with his latest comments.

After leaving Gremio, Suarez said: “I can feel pain. My body is speaking for me. I want to enjoy and then decide for myself after a long career. I need to rest and enjoy my family, then destiny will know where I’ll be.”

Should Suarez decide to hang up his boots, it would be a fitting end for the former Liverpool and Ajax star should he decide to retire from football.
He scored in his final match for Gremio in a 1-0 win against Vasco da Gama.

The likelihood of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez’s incredible reunion at Inter Miami may be jeopardised after the 36-year-old Uruguayan hinted about his potential retirement.
