Sexual Harassment: Head Of Service suspends foreign affairs ministry perm sec, orders immediate probe

The Head of Service has suspended the Permanent Secretary of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

It also ordered an urgent investigation to uncover the details of the allegations and ensure accountability.

BusinessDay Newspapers had reported that a storm of controversy engulfed Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as allegations of sexual harassment had been brought against Ibrahim Lamuwa, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary.

Simisola Ajayi, a married and pregnant staff member, came forward with detailed accusations, prompting Yusuf Tuggar to formally request an investigation by Folasade Yemi-Esan, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.

The scandal, which has been simmering internally for months, now threatens to shake the Ministry to its core as more victims prepare to testify.

A letter sighted by BusinessDay Newspapers dated May 27, 2024, from Tuggar to Folasade Yemi-Esan, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, highlighted the severity of the allegations.

This move followed five months of internal attempts to resolve the issue, which ultimately proved ineffective as Lamuwa allegedly continued his behaviour despite multiple warnings.
