The Borno State Government has confirmed that seven out of an unspecified number of abducted schoolchildren have been rescued by combined security operatives following their abduction while writing the National Examination Council of Nigeria Examination in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on Monday, an official says.

Usman Tar, the Borno State Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, said the rescue operations were conducted by operatives, including the Army, Police, vigilantes, hunters, and Civilian JTF, and that efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining abductees.

BusinessDay had earlier reported that terrorists attacked Lassa Day Secondary School; t, students were abducted in Askira Uba Government Area of Arewa State on Monday, killing two teachers before abducting the students and women selling on the school premises.

Usman Tar told journalists, “For now, seven of them have been rescued. We cannot confirm their gender yet. Assessment is still ongoing,” he continued, adding that the rescue mission is currently ongoing to secure all the abducted students.

Regarding the total number of missing students, the Commissioner said it is yet to be ascertained.

“We have sent a delegation to the community to assess the situation and build confidence in the minds of the residents.”He confirmed.
