Seven dead as bandits unleash terror on Nasarawa community

….Governor Sule approves N200m for establishment of military camp in Tatara

Seven persons died in a night attack by suspected bandits in Tatara village, Pandan development area of Karu local government, Nasarawa state on Sunday night.

The terrorists, according to an eye witness, are fleeing bandits who are on their heels following recent military bombardments that have dislodged scores of terrorists in nearby states of Katsina, Zamfara, and Kaduna.

The attack which started at about 10:00 pm on Saturday night claimed seven people including women in Tatara village.

An eyewitness who related the incident to Journalists on Monday said that how the terrorists invaded and carried out their operation was strange and not similar to any recent attacks being witnessed in the state.

“They came with motorbikes, well equipped and terrifying. Before we could know what was happening sporadic shooting started and the language we were hearing was Fulani dialect,” he said.

“The arms they were carrying was really sophisticated. Many people were wondering apart from the seven that died immediately. If not for the quick response by the security agents the whole community would have been turned into a ghost village.

“We appeal to the state government to deploy more soldiers to the community because apart from this attack we have been contending with several other criminal activities in this village, that was why when this recent attack started we thought it was the normal robbery not until we discovered late that they were trained terrorists.”

Further checks revealed that before the security arrived at the scene, seven people had been killed.

Other sources, who also confirmed the attack, noted that the community had had a vicious attack which has become part of a series of assaults that have plagued the area for some time.

Governor Sule approves N200m for establishment of military camp in Tatara

Governor Abdullahi Sule has given the go-ahead for the establishment of another military super camp in Tatara, Panda Development Area of Karu Local Government.

Governor Sule who visited Tatara on Monday to commiserate with the people over the recent crisis that left seven people dead, said he will approve two hundred million naira for the military camp to be established in Tatara, a border community with Kaduna State.

According to the Governor, no amount of money is too much as long as it involves the welfare and security of the people of the state.

“I will approve N200m needed to set up the military super camp in Tatara. Because there is no amount of money that is so much when it comes to the lives of our people,” he said.

While condemning the crisis as barbaric and unnecessary, the Governor warned that his administration would not take it lightly with any person who does not want to live in peace with others.

“Our aim in this state is to live in peace with everybody. We know the constitution of Nigeria has given people the opportunity to live where they wish, but we also have our wish that whoever will live in Nasarawa State must live in peace with one another. Anybody who does not want to live in peace, he has no place in Nasarawa State,” he said.

He emphasized that his administration is doing everything possible to ensure peace and security across the state because Nasarawa State is undergoing visible transformation.

“As far as we are concerned, Nasarawa State is on the rise, and Nasarawa State is seeing potential for development. Nasarawa State is being developed gradually. We can not afford to have people who do not want to live in peace in Nasarawa State. That is the reason why we are doing everything possible to ensure that we bring peace and unity to our people,” he added.

Governor Sule disclosed that his administration has already established similar military super camps in crisis prone border communities of Loko, Toto, Udege and Awe, with a view to de-escalate communal skirmishes in those areas, with Tatara a border community with Kaduna State coming up next.

He assured the people of Tatara that his administration would take every measures available to restore peace and security to the area.

“What happened to you people in Tatara, I want you to know that we are responsible for your welfare. We are responsible for your security. As a responsible Government, we will continue to support you and do whatever it is to bring peace to Tatara. Not just because of the crisis you are witnessing but because Tatara is a border town,” he stated.
