Senate in rowdy session over 2024 budget allegations

Senate introduces bill to establish Local Government electoral commission

The Senate on Tuesday degenerated into a rowdy session after heated debates and arguments over the allegations made by Abdul Ningi, the Senator representing Bauchi Central on the 2024 budget.

During plenary on Tuesday, Solomon Adeola Olamilekan, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, expressed frustration over the interview granted to BBC by Ningi, alleging that over N3 trillion is not traced to any projects.

Olamilekan, raising a motion, prayed the Senate to constitute a committe of the whole to look into the matter and prefer punishment for Ningi.

Ningi, who brought various documents to defend himself said he never said the budget bwas padded but insisted that N 3 trillion is not traced to any project in the 2024 bugget.

He further lamented that the take home Salary of Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President and the number of his aides are unknown . Ningi also decried that allocation for constituency projects are partially allocated to Senators.

“Some Senatorial district have N120 billion and mine just have N20 billion. I have facts, I don’t know your (Akpabio) take home pay”, he yelled

His comments caused an uproar in the Senate , but the Upper Chamber was further thrown into a rowdy session when Jarigbe Jarigbe, Senator representing Cross River said “Some so called senior Senators got up to N500 billion for constituency projects “
