Barely a few minutes after the Senate resumed its plenary , the session immediately degenerated into a rowdy session as lawmakers argued and quarrelled over seat arrangement at its newly renovated chamber.
Recall that the Senate proceeded for a break for the Easter and Sallah break on March 21, the break was extended to April 30 to allow the completion of renovation at the Chamber, which has been ongoing for about two years.
The Senate on Tuesday resumed plenary at the new chambers, and some lawmakers were not happy about the sitting arrangement.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio was still giving his opening remarks when the chamber became rowdy as lawmakers argued over the seats they were given.
Specifically, Sahabi Alhaji, the Senator representing Zamfara North, angrily stood from his seat to complain to Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate Leader that he did not like the seat he was given.
Proceeds to closed session
His grievance was that he is a ranking Senator, and his seat which is at the far right of the chamber is not befitting for his status. Other lawmakers immediately joined in the argument over their seat arrangement.
The rowdy session continued for more than 20 minutes, and the Senate quickly resolved to go into a closed-session to discuss “matters of importance”.
