Rampaging residents break into COVID-19 palliatives warehouse in Lagos

COVID-19 palliatives warehouse

Hundreds of residents in Lagos State, on Thursday, broke into a warehouse at Monkey Village, Maza Maza, in Amuwo Odofin, and carted away Covid-19 food palliatives stored in the warehouse.

Videos circulating on the social media showed the rampaging residents moving out tons of food palliatives marked CACVID, believed to have been donated to the state by the Private Sector Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID).

The private sector-led organisation was established in March 2020 to assist the government in combating the Covid-19 pandemic.

Soldiers were also seen taking from the loot. The rampaging youths were heard accusing the state government of hoarding the food items.

The government received the palliatives on September 22, 2020, and publicised the receipt of 107,546 food palliative packs worth N1.4 billion to Lagosians, especially the vulnerable and under privileged in the state.
