Professor of Management decries FG’s inability to eradicate poverty, unemployment

Friday Ezionye Eboh, a Professor of Management in Abia State University, Uturu, has lamented that Nigeria as a nation is not doing much to eradicate poverty, unemployment and inequality in the society.

Eboh who stated this while delivering the 61st inaugural lecture of ABSU in Uturu on the topic ‘Management: Everything, Everywhere,’ (Imara hazie, Irie uru) noted that Nigeria, the giant of Africa is among the 20 poorest countries in the world.

He recommended that the nation must get serious in making the regulatory institutions of the nation to be alive to their duties.

He reiterated that management was very central and that it should be taught as General studies in Universities.

Eboh who was one time Rector of Abia state Polytechnic, Aba, revealed that major functions of management are: planning, organizing, staffing, directing, delegating, coordinating, reporting and budgeting.

He therefore charged all managers to always discharge their duties diligently and efficiently as there is no reward for unprofitable servants.

The University Don reiterated that every organization exists to satisfy a specific need of society, community or individuals.

He added that the baseline in theory management is driven by profit, stressing that Nigerians must cultivate the habit of working hard, bearing in mind always that business comes before pleasure.

In his closing remarks, the vice chancellor, Maxwell Onyemachi Ogbulu of ABSU appreciated Eboh profusely for clinically identifying mismanagement as the bane of the society.

He said the Institution was proud of him and wasted no time to admit him as distinguished Professor of Management of the University.
