The Presidency has denied a false statement attributed to Seyi Tinubu, the patron of the CityBoy Movement
O’tega Ogra, Senior Special Assistant to the President on New Media and Deputy Director General, Communication and Public Affairs of the Movement, in a statement on Monday, described the statement as ” false, malicious and deliberately inflammatory write-up”
Ogra states that the information which is circulating on social media and purportedly authored by one “Albaabu Abudulahi,” contains “certain blasphemous statements, falsely attributed to our Patron, Barr. Seyi Tinubu, regarding Almighty God and the 2027 presidential election”.
” For the avoidance of doubt, Barr. Seyi Tinubu did not make the statement credited to him. He has never made such a statement at any time, in any place, through any channel, or under any circumstance whatsoever.”
He stressed that the attribution is entirely false, adding that”It is malicious in intent, reckless in circulation and dangerous in consequence.”
According to him, ” Barr. Seyi Tinubu is a man of faith who holds deep reverence for Almighty God. He believes firmly that all power belongs to God alone, and that no man can attain, retain or exercise authority except by the grace, mercy and permission of the Almighty.
“He has never insulted, mocked, questioned or diminished the supremacy of Almighty God or Allah, and will never do so. Any attempt to present him as a person without reverence for God is a deliberate falsehood designed to damage his name, distort his values and provoke needless religious tension in the country.”
He also noted that while Seyi Tinubu remains committed to mobilising support for the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, he also recognises that every political aspiration, every public effort and every human endeavour can only succeed by the will and guidance of Almighty God. No political conviction held by him has ever been placed above the sovereignty of God.
The CityBoy Movement, therefore, urged Nigerians, across all faiths and political persuasions, to disregard this malicious fabrication and treat it for what it is: a calculated attempt by mischief makers to inflame passions, mislead the public and create tension where none exists.
“At a time when our country requires maturity, restraint and responsibility, public discourse must never be poisoned with manufactured religious provocation. Politics must not become an excuse for falsehood.
” Disagreement must not become a licence for character assassination. And no responsible citizen should lend credibility to materials designed only to divide Nigerians along sensitive religious lines”
The Movement reiterated that Seyi Tinubu remains respectful of all faiths, committed to peaceful coexistence, national unity, democratic engagement and responsible public conduct.
The Movement also appealed to members of the public, media organisations, digital publishers and social media users to verify information before sharing, and to resist the temptation to amplify falsehoods capable of threatening harmony and mutual respect among Nigerians.
