Obinna Iyiegbu, Nigerian entrepreneur and philanthropist, known as Obi Cubana, has hosted Seyi Tinubu at his residence in Abuja, using the meeting to restate his position on inclusive development, regional cooperation, and youth participation in Nigeria’s growth process.
The engagement, according to Obi Cubana, was centred on dialogue around national development that cuts across political interests. He said progress in the South-East and the country as a whole must be driven by competence, integrity, and engagement with leadership.
“The development of the South-East must be an all-inclusive project, free from partisan politics. It can only be achieved when competent individuals are in positions of influence, guiding those in power and helping to deliver meaningful outcomes for the people,” he said.
Obi Cubana also spoke on security improvements in the South-East, crediting state governors for working with the Federal Government to address insecurity. He said these efforts contributed to a safer environment during the recent festive season.
“For the first time in a long while, we returned home in December and truly enjoyed Ala Igbo. This was made possible by deliberate actions taken to address insecurity. I believe strongly that our region is on the path to regaining its status as the economic powerhouse of West Africa,” he stated, adding, “Better days are ahead.”
Addressing public reactions to his appointment as South-East Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Obi Cubana acknowledged that opinions have been divided. He said his decision was guided by the belief that progress requires engagement rather than withdrawal.
“Regarding my recent appointment as South-East Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, I understand the varied reactions it has provoked. But my stance remains unchanged: lasting change comes from engaging with the system, not from distancing oneself,” he said.
He reaffirmed that his involvement in the movement would not change his guiding principles.
“Service remains my guiding principle, and this new role does not alter my commitment to integrity, community growth, and responsible leadership,” Obi Cubana said.
He further explained why participation in decision-making spaces matters, noting that influence is strongest when individuals are directly involved.
“I’ve learned that influence is most effective when you are part of the system. So yes, I am a City Boy, inside and out,” he stated.
Obi Cubana also referenced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while speaking on leadership and enterprise.
“Our nation’s leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is also a City Boy and a man of commerce. All of us need each other to achieve our national aspirations. I am committed to carrying every Nigerian along in all that I do,” he said.
Calling for unity and constructive dialogue, Obi Cubana urged Nigerians to focus on value creation.
“Let’s respect differing views, keep conversations vibrant, and stay focused on building real value. The moment is now, we move!” he said.
He thanked the public for its support and outlined plans for 2026 focused on youth engagement across the country. He said he would continue to support policies and leadership efforts that improve outcomes for young people, women, children, and small businesses.
“Where enterprise meets vision and leadership is right, I will always be willing to support and advise anyone in a position of power on how to improve the lives of our youths, women, children, businesses, and future generations. That is what I stand for, progress,” he concluded.
