Danladi Isa, commissioner of police in Abia State, has directed officers of the state command to strictly enforce laws against unregistered vehicles and vehicles with covered number plates while maintaining professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
The directive was issued during a meeting with senior officers of the command held on Thursday, where the police leadership reviewed the state’s security architecture and adopted additional measures aimed at strengthening crime prevention and public safety.
According to a statement issued on Friday by Maureen Chinaka, Police Public Relations Officer, the meeting was attended by Area Commanders, Squadron Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and the Commander of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
The statement said the meeting focused on assessing existing security mechanisms across the state and introducing proactive strategies to improve crime prevention and detection.
Isa reiterated the directive of the Inspector-General of Police on the enforcement of regulations against unregistered vehicles and vehicles with obscured or covered number plates.
He, however, cautioned officers against abusing the enforcement exercise, stressing that professionalism and adherence to due process must guide all operations.
The commissioner directed that offenders should be charged to court in accordance with the law, warning that the enforcement campaign must not become an opportunity for extortion or other forms of unprofessional conduct.
He also charged supervising officers to closely monitor the activities of their subordinates to ensure accountability and prevent acts that could expose senior officers to vicarious liability.
According to him, effective supervision is essential to maintaining discipline and upholding the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force.
The police commissioner further urged officers to remain committed to their responsibilities and work collectively towards ensuring the safety and security of residents across Abia State.
The command encouraged members of the public to report any form of police misconduct through the Abia State Police Command’s Complaint Response Unit using the dedicated telephone lines 09031593827 and 09035401645.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency and the implementation of proactive policing strategies aimed at sustaining peace and security across the state.
