Police target criminal black-spots, arrest 348 suspects in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has ramped up its efforts to combat crime by targeting known criminal black spots across Abuja. In major operations aimed at addressing various security concerns, the Command arrested 348 suspects involved in different criminal activities, ranging from theft to drug trafficking.

These operations are part of the police’s broader strategy to curb crime, safeguard public infrastructure, and dismantle illegal drug networks. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Josephine Adeh, Command’s Police Public Relations Officer.

According to the Command, the raids are part of a proactive strategy by the FCT Police Command, designed to enhance the safety and security of residents across the territory.

According to the Police, these locations include Apo-Dutse Panteka, the Diplomatic Zone, and the New PDP Secretariat. Other notable targets of the raids include Kabusa Panteka, Tungan-Maje (Ajakaita), and Abuja-Kaduna Road. Additionally, areas such as Jabi Panteka, Apo-Waru Panteka, and Area 1 (Monkey Village) were also raided.

Others are  Durumi Village, Gwarimpa, Angwan Tivi, and Mpape, with particular attention to the Mashafa and Shishinpe villages.

Furthermore, raids were conducted in Durumi III (Burukutu Garden), Mabushi (Gishiri Village), Kubwa (Pipeline and NEPA Road), and Maitama, particularly under the Transcorp Bridge. These black spots have been identified as areas where criminal activities are prevalent, and the raids are part of a broader effort to restore safety and order.

According to the statement, the sustained efforts of the FCT Police Command in these operations have led to significant achievements.

“These include the arrest of 348 suspects connected to various criminal activities. Additionally, 320 individuals have been prosecuted, with offenders duly charged to court for their involvement in crimes.

The operations, according to the police, have also led to the recovery of vital stolen property, including 26 manhole covers, 20 solar/streetlight poles, and large quantities of AEDC armoured cables. Furthermore, the police successfully seized 10 trucks loaded with stolen metals, which helped disrupt the illicit trade of these stolen goods.

In tackling the growing drug problem, the police confiscated large quantities of Indian hemp and other hard drugs, significantly curbing drug-related crimes. Additionally, 11 firearms were recovered, contributing to a reduction in the circulation of dangerous weapons.
