The Federal Capital Territory FCT Police  Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers who were allegedly captured in a viral video wearing military camouflage and brandishing AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and walkie-talkies.

Ahmed Sanusi, FCT Commissioner of Police, CP, confirmed the development, saying the arrests followed “painstaking investigation and diligent pursuit” after the disturbing footage circulated online.

According to him, upon receiving the viral video and related images, he immediately ordered a comprehensive forensic analysis to determine the source and authenticity of the content, as well as the identities of those involved.

He also directed operatives to track and apprehend the suspects without delay.

Sanusi explained that acting on digital forensic intelligence and actionable leads, officers of the FCT Police Command’s VCRU Sector 5, in collaboration with personnel from the Zuba Division, led by Ogu Caleb Ikechukwu, Divisional Police Officer,  carried out a coordinated nighttime operation in Runji Village, Zuba, in the early hours of May 25 at about 3:22 a.m.

During the operation, three suspects linked to the viral footage were arrested at what police described as their hideout.

The suspects were identified as Umar Babangida, 25; Adamu Yeti, 22; and Yahaya Idris, 24, all reportedly residents of Rijana in Kaduna State.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, revealed that the suspects had previously had AK-47 rifles allegedly supplied by their gang leader, known only as “Esco,” who is said to be based in Rijana, Kaduna State, and is currently at large.

The police further disclosed that additional incriminating materials were recovered from the suspects’ mobile phones, including photographs and videos showing them dressed in military camouflage while holding assault rifles and carrying communication equipment.

Authorities said the suspects remain in custody and are undergoing further interrogation as investigations continue.

Efforts are also underway to apprehend the fleeing gang leader and other members of the syndicate, as well as to recover the weapons allegedly in their possession.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and warned against the illegal possession of firearms and impersonation of security personnel.
