Plateau State has mourned the loss of Jamila Muhammad, one of its female pilgrims who passed away in Makka, Saudi Arabia, on Monday, June 2, 2025. The late pilgrim reportedly died as a result of diabetic complications while performing the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage.

Daiyabu Dauda, the Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board who confirmed the sad development in a statement released on Tuesday in Jos, disclosed that upon receiving the report of Hajiya Jamila’s health crisis, he immediately directed the state’s medical team to ensure she was taken to King Abdulaziz Hospital in Makkahl for urgent medical attention.

“Her case was treated with utmost urgency, in line with the directive of our Governor, His Excellency Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, who has continuously emphasised the welfare of our pilgrims. Unfortunately, despite the medical efforts, she passed away in the hospital”; Dauda stated.

The Executive Secretary further revealed that her funeral prayer was conducted at the Grand Mosque in Makka. The solemn rite was attended by the Plateau State Amirul Hajj, other top officials of the pilgrims board, and members of the deceased’s family who were also on the pilgrimage.

“Hajiya Jamila was subsequently buried in Makka in accordance with Islamic rites, joining the ranks of pilgrims who pass away while fulfilling their spiritual obligations in the holy land. Her passing marks a moment of reflection and sorrow for the Plateau State pilgrim community”.

Quoting the Holy Qur’an, Dauda said, “And whoever leaves his home as an emigrant to Allah and His Messenger and then death overtakes him, his reward has already become incumbent upon Allah”.

He encouraged the family and fellow pilgrims to take solace in this divine promise.

Dauda also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Government of Plateau State, the immediate family of the deceased, and the entire pilgrim delegation. He prayed for Allah’s mercy and forgiveness upon her soul and asked that she be granted a place in Aljannatul Firdaus, the highest level of Paradise.
