Plateau governor blames security inaction for terror attacks

Plateau govt laments infrastructure decay despite Lalong’s N47bn debt

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang levelled accusations against security agencies Friday, claiming they possess knowledge of the masterminds behind recent deadly attacks that have left over 200 dead and many displaced.

“What I can tell you is the killings in Plateau and the attacks in recent times are pure acts of terrorism,” Mutfwang declared in an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today program. He urged swift action: “The earlier Nigeria deals with these attacks, the better.”

The Governor’s claim stemmed from his conviction that authorities not only possess vital intelligence on the terrorist network’s financiers and suppliers but also the capacity to gather additional crucial information. “I believe that the sponsors of the terrorists, the financiers of the terrorists, and those who arm the terrorists are known,” he asserted. “And the security agencies know them, or they can know them.”

He then delivered a stark ultimatum: “That is why we insist that the security agencies must do their work to protect lives and properties.”

His statement resonated with a public reeling from the recent spate of violence, and his demand for decisive action placed immense pressure on security forces grappling with complex regional dynamics.

Mutfwang’s accusations, if true, raise troubling questions about the effectiveness of intelligence gathering and counterterrorism efforts in the region.

His call for accountability will likely generate further scrutiny and demand transparent investigations into the security apparatus’s response to the crisis.
