Olaniyi Ijalaye, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ogun State, slumped and died on Monday in Abuja after attending a meeting with other RECs at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters.

According to reports, the incident occurred after ljalaye returned to his hotel room after the meeting.

The REC was said to have been in good spirit during the meeting where the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, as well as filling vacant positions in the National and State Assemblies, were focused on.

Ijalaye assumed the REC position in Ogun State in March 2022 following the transfer of his predecessor, Olusegun Agbaje, to Lagos State.
