Ogun partners World Bank on revitalisation of 75 primary health centres

In a bid to improve access to effective and efficient Healthcare Service delivery in the State, Ogun State Government, in collaboration with the World Bank-assisted projects, has set machinery in place to revitalise 75 Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) across the 20 Local Government Areas of the State.

Kofoworola Olajide, State Project Manager of Immunisation Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services IMPACT, stated this in Abeokuta, the State Capital, during the contract signing of successful contractors of the FIVE LOTS of the proposed 75 Primary Health Centers across the State.

Olajide, noted that the project was aimed at upgrading 75 primary healthcare facilities as the First Phase of the IMPACT Revitalisation Project, stating that the idea was to create and ensure a conducive environment, and standard structural facilities to deliver quality healthcare services, which would help the health sector Improve the health indices of the State.

Olajide revealed that the project, Immunisation Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) for Nigeria was aimed at reducing under-five mortality rate and catalysing overall improvements in health services both at the national level and in the selected states thereby resulting in improvements in access to quality health services beneficial to children and women in selected States.

Earlier, Elijah Ogunsola, the Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Development Board, said that the successful execution of the project was expected as it would have a great impact on the state’s healthcare landscape. He noted that renovating and equipping PHC would increase access to quality healthcare services, particularly for rural and underserved communities.

Ogunsola’s statement highlights Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to providing quality and accessible healthcare services to the people of the State, saying that the initiative was part of the Governor’s efforts to strengthen the State’s healthcare system, which had seen significant improvements.

The project’s focus on revitalising primary healthcare centres aligns with the Governor’s goal of ensuring the welfare, wellness, and well-being of citizens, particularly for rural and underserved communities, he further said

In his reaction, Bolaji Anjorin, the World Bank Consultant on Impact Project, hinted that the contractors were keenly selected through a rigorous process in the area of documentation and budget, adding that all stakeholders would be on the same page and keep abreast of the aims and objectives of the project.

He further stated that the monitoring team which would comprise the World Bank representatives, State Impact team and Contractors as well as other Monitoring officers would work hand in hand to ensure proper monitoring of the project, adding that it would give the State another significant transformation in its Primary Health Care System and would lead to better health care for its citizens.

The representative of Peculiar People’s Management, Delia Omatshola, on behalf of other contractors, appreciated the State government and the World Bank IMPACT Project for the award of the contract of PHC Revitalisation, promising to deliver quality and good standards.
