Obi-Datti movement dissociates self from attacks on Adeboye

Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God

The Obi-Datti Media Office has disassociated the Obidients from the recent campaign of calumny targeted at the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye.

Diran Onifade, the media officer of the group on Wednesday in Abuja described the attacks as part of the campaign of calumny emanating from opposition ranks, used to blackmail the Obidients.

Reno Omokri, a public affairs commentator had berated the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, for failure to call his followers, known as Obidients, to order, over the attacks on Adeboye.

Omokri had alleged that Obi’s supporters insulted all Nigerian icons, including the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye.

The attack was allegedly said to be a reaction to a statement credited to the Special Assistant of Adeboye, at a Sunday Church Service, where he expressed optimism that “the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, would fix Nigeria with the help of God”
Balogun was said to have made the statement when he represented Adeboye, at the monthly Thanksgiving service at the RCCG Headquarters in Ebute-Metta.

“Obi’s supporters” were alleged to have “ felt offended by the statement credited to Adeboye, calling him names on various social media platforms, according to Omokri.

Some “ Obidient” irked by the statement were alleged to have resorted to making offensive images, songs, skits, and remarks against the Cleric

But reacting to the development, Onifade disassociated the Obi- Datti supporters from such attacks, adding that the “ perpetrators of the campaigns have resorted to blaming ‘Obidients’ for the “ unjustified social media attacks on the revered General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye”.

According to Onifade, “ We wish to state categorically that supporters of Peter Obi, like their Principal, have great respect for Pastor Adeboye and therefore are not involved in any social media hounding of the revered man of God most especially over a statement he did not make”.

He noted that it has become a pattern for desperate political operatives to orchestrate a ruse and blame it on Peter Obi’s supporters in furtherance of the opposition’s subterfuge strategy which has failed back to back.

“We wish to appeal to fellow Nigerians to ignore the antics of election riggers who believe that demarketing Peter Obi is their sure means of keeping a stolen mandate.

“Nigerians are aware by now that issuing personal insults is not Peter Obi’s character and he does not encourage his followers to engage in same”.
