The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has cautioned Corps Members against participating in partisan political activities, urging them instead to focus on entrepreneurship, financial literacy and national integration during their service year.

Olakunle Nafiu, director-general of the NYSC, gave the warning while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Corps Members at the Lagos State Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja.

According to a statement issued in Abuja by Caroline Embu, director of Information and Public Relations, the NYSC boss stressed that the scheme remains an apolitical organisation and, therefore, Corps Members must not engage in political campaigns, rallies or any activity capable of identifying them with a political party.

“Do not get involved in the campaign of any political party. Don’t mix NYSC with politics. You should stay clear of politics,” Nafiu said.

The Director-General also warned Corps Members against the misuse of social media, advising them to avoid cyberstalking, cyberbullying and cyber fraud.

“If you are found guilty, you will face the consequences. Be careful about the way you use social media,” he cautioned.

Nafiu noted that Corps Members have promising futures ahead of them and urged them not to allow negative influences to derail their aspirations. He encouraged them to maintain discipline, manage their finances prudently and cultivate a culture of savings.

He further urged the Corps Members to take advantage of their service year to foster national unity and integration by building lasting friendships across ethnic, religious and cultural divides.

The NYSC Director-General also encouraged participants to embrace the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, describing it as a viable pathway to self-reliance and economic empowerment.

He also advised Corps Members to explore opportunities in the capital market as part of efforts to secure their financial future.

According to him, the formal launch of the NYSC/Kudimata Capital Market Awareness Sensitisation Programme in Lagos was designed to equip Corps Members with essential knowledge of the capital market and strengthen their investment capacity.

“It is a programme designed to empower you with financial knowledge and investment capacity. It will also enable Corps Members to make informed financial decisions,” he said.

Also speaking, Christianah Salmwang, Lagos State Coordinator of the NYSC, informed the Director-General that a total of 9,955 Corps Members had been registered by the camp, including those undertaking their orientation course in other states.

She commended the Corps Members for their enthusiasm, discipline and readiness to serve the nation, expressing confidence that they would make meaningful contributions to national development during their service year.
