NUPENG confirms Afolabi as substantive General Secretary

The National Administrative Council (NAC) of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has confirmed the appointment of Olawale Afolabi as the substantive General Secretary (GS) of the union with immediate effect.

Before the confirmation, Afolabi has acted in that capacity for three consecutive months.

Afolabi is a seasoned trade unionist and technocrat and has been in active service for over two decades in NUPENG in such areas as management, training/education, alternative dispute resolution, and negotiations.

He is skilled in industrial relations; general management and organisational development which he acquired and nurtured over the years in various roles since joining NUPENG.

To his credit, many union leaders and branch officials cut their trade union teeth through relevant training and workshops.

Also promoted as deputy general secretaries is Christopher Akpede, who was a principal assistant general secretary and head of Port Harcourt zone of the union.

Others also promoted to the position of deputy general secretaries are Anthony Chukwu (in charge of finance/accounts) and Otite Precious Onohwohwo (in charge of operations). The three will formally resume to their respective offices effective Monday April 1, 2019.
