The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) said it’s ready to implement the electronic call-up system at the Onne Port Complex to ease cargo evacuation.

The Ports Authority said the Federal Executive Council has approved the implementation of the call-up and will begin implementation before the end of this quarter.

Abubakar Dantsoho, managing director of the NPA, disclosed this when the executive team of Call-up Technology Services Limited and Forge Concepts Limited, operators of the electronic solution to truck batching to the port, paid a pre-implementation visit to the NPA headquarters in Lagos.

Dantsoho, who was Port Manager for Onne Port Complex from 2020 to 2021 where he spearheaded innovative investor-friendly initiatives, said the implementation is in line with the directive of Adegboyega Oyetola, minister of Marine and Blue Economy towards providing the support necessary to fast track the automation of truck traffic along Onne Port corridor.

“We would ensure that the operators structure their Information Technology deployments in a manner that seamlessly plugs into the Port Community System (PCS) and the forthcoming National Single Window while emphasising sustainable use of alternative energy sources,” he said.

The Onne Port Complex which houses the Federal Ocean Terminal (FOT) and Federal Lighter Terminal (FLT) is also the largest oil and gas logistics base in West and Central Africa.

The port, which serves as a major gateway into the Eastern part of the country, has in recent times been recording unprecedented growth in vessel and cargo traffic.
