NIWA moves to design new blueprint for waterways operations, management

As part of efforts to ensure effective operations and management of Nigeria’s waterways, especially as regards internal waterways transportation, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has concluded plans to design and introduce new template and blueprint of operations.

Consequently, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), would be holding its Annual Management Retreat meant for better performance in the year 2025.

Suleiman Makama, Assistant General Manager, Corporate Affairs, made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Lokoja, Kogi State Capital, saying that a two-day management retreat would be held on Friday to review the Authority’s 2024 performances, chat a new course for 2025 and introduce a new template of operations and waterways management.

He said “The discussion at the retreat will be centered on Key Performance Indicator (KPI), review for 2024 and outlook for 2025.
We shall also review our revenue performance for 2024 and targets for 2025, Organisational effectiveness, and communication.”

He pointed out that the retreat, which would be held at the NIWA Conference Hall, Lokoja, would feature Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy as Special Guest of Honor.

“The NIWA Managing- Director, Bola Oyebamiji, will serve as the host of the retreat. During the 2024 Performance Bond signing retreat, held in Lokoja, the MD had said that the objective of the retreat was to discuss as well as to have a working template.

“A template which shall readily meet up with the aspirations of President Bola Tinubu on Inland Waterways through the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy”, the statement indicated, adding that the 2025 retreat would have the Management and all Area Managers in attendance.
