Nigerians lament as FG attaches N3,000 charges on National ID renewal

National identity card was the top list of the trending topics on Nigeria Twitter on Tuesday, not for the best reasons but for the N3,000 charges attached to the renewal of the card.

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) had on Monday via its Twitter handle stated that Nigerians who lost their ID cards would incur N5,000 as replacement cost, while those whose cards expired would pay N3,000 for renewal.

“The requirements include a written application with attached proof of payment receipt made through Remita, bank teller, NIN slip and submit it at our office,” the agency had tweeted.

In response to the new development, Nigerians came on the social media in their numbers to air their frustration on the new levee.

“How much should we charge you for not giving us our National ID cards we registered for since?” a Nigerians asked via a tweet.

Another handled lamented on how he had applied for the national ID and is yet to receive it instead he is notified of the new bills.

“I applied for Nigeria National ID card since 2014 and till today I haven’t received my permanent National ID card. Today I am seeing it trend on this space and i feel that i need to voice out, others should do same.”

“Soon the FG will start taxing for breathing too much,” a tweeter handle lamented.
