Dangote slashes PMS price by N100, declares fuel scarcity “gone for good”

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel in a move aimed at easing cost pressures on consumers and businesses in Nigeria.

Under the new pricing, the gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) was cut from ₦1,175 to ₦1,075 per litre, while the coastal price dropped from ₦1,150 to ₦1,028 per litre. Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), also known as diesel, was reduced from ₦1,620 to ₦1,430 per litre.

The refinery said the price adjustment is part of efforts to reduce the financial burden on consumers and support economic stability.

Osimhen in tears as Galatasaray fans pay tribute to late mother

PDP loses more seats as four Reps dump party for APC, Accord

Four lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Accord Party, dealing a fresh blow to the opposition in the lower chamber. The defections were announced during Wednesday’s plenary after their letters were read by the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas.

Among the defectors is Garba Inuwa, who represents Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency of Gombe State, and moved from the PDP to the APC.

 

Nigerian exporters bleed profits as shipping lines shun major Gulf ports

Missile strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran have disrupted shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, leaving cargo vessels stranded and trade flows to the Gulf region uncertain.

Among those affected is Muhammad Gummi, CEO of G-baneen Nigeria, whose shipment of sesame seeds and cashew nuts left Apapa Port in Lagos on February 26 aboard a vessel operated by Maersk, bound for Jebel Ali Port in the United Arab Emirates, but is now stuck at sea as maritime activity in the region grinds to a halt.

Unilag ASUU begins strike over slashed salaries

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Lagos chapter, has commenced an indefinite strike from Wednesday, March 11, over alleged deductions and non-payment of parts of lecturers’ salaries, commonly referred to as “amputated salaries.” The decision followed an emergency congress held on Tuesday at the Akoka campus where members resolved to withdraw their services until the issue is addressed.

In a statement sighted by BusinessDay, the union said the university paid “amputated salaries” to members in January 2026, adding that lecturers at the Akoka campus were not paid Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), while those at the Idi-Araba campus were not paid both EAA and CATA.
