Edwin Clark, the leader of Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), is dead. The South-South leader was confirmed dead in a statement by Prof. C. C. Clark, his family representative, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the former Federal Commissioner for Information died on Monday, February 17, 2025.
“The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, wishes to announce the passing of Chief (Dr.) Sen. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark OFR, CON on Monday, 17th February 2025.
“The family appreciates your prayers at this time. Other details will be announced later by the family,” the statement reads.
Who was Chief Edwin Clark
Clark was a highly respected and influential figure in Nigeria. He was born on May 25, 1927, in Kiagbodo, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State. He attended primary school in his hometown and later attended Baptist High School in Port Harcourt.
He started his career as a teacher and later became a civil servant. He served in various capacities, including as a district officer, before entering politics. He was a member of the Nigerian parliament in the 1950s and 1960s. He played a key role in Nigeria’s independence movement and was a close associate of Nnamdi Azikiwe, Nigeria’s first president.

The late Clark was recognised widely as the Ijaw national leader. He was a vocal advocate for the rights of the Ijaw people and the Niger Delta region.
While he was alive he was honoured with numerous awards and recognition for his contributions to Nigeria’s development. He was awarded the national honor of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) in 2005. He was a devout Christian.
