NIGCOMSAT empowers spacesector start ups with N750,000

The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) with the mandate to drive innovative ideas in the Nigerian space, has empowered start ups in the space sector who emerged winners of the maiden edition of Hackathon Challenge organised by the Agency.

Team Astromania, a team of five young Nigerians who emerged winner of the ActinSpace Innovation Challenge, were awarded a cash prize of N750,000.00, laptops, ICT internship programme and an all-expense paid trip to represent Nigeria in France.

Team Future generation which was 1st runner-up got laptops and a cash prize of N500,000.00. Team Pyloops whocame3rdgotacashprizeof N350,000.00andlaptops.whilst the 4th team, Team Floews also went home with N200,000.

The Minister of Communication and digital economy, Isa Pantami, during the Flagg off said the challenge will promote digital skills, services, and indigenous content inline with the National digital policy and strategy

The Managing Director, NIGCOMSAT Abimbola Alale, speaking during the Actinspace innovative challenge held in the NIGCOMSAT headquarters Abuja, said the challenge seek to expose Nigerians to undiscovered possibilities and solutions in the Nigeria space sector

She said: “The challenge would promote skills development in our youth, serve as platform for networking and exposure. We have to be futuristic in thinking, these challenges provides opportunity for us to provide solutions to present challenge and look forward to the future”
