The official website of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) is back online after being offline for four weeks due to a cyber attack that occurred on December 18, 2024.
The platform, which serves as a critical repository for national data and statistics, was restored earlier today, just in time for the launch of the December inflation report, allowing users to once again access essential economic and demographic reports.
The bureau had, in December, published the ‘2024 Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey,’ which showed that Nigerians paid an estimated N2.23 trillion as ransom in 12 months, and that 65 percent of households had been affected by kidnapping incidents.
Barely 24 hours after the report was released, the bureau confirmed the website attack in its X (formerly Twitter) account, warning the public to disregard any information posted on the website.
