Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Acting Chairman, National Population Commission made the announcement during a panel session at the ongoing BusinessDay Nigerian Economic Outlook.

“The President has asked us to come present a draft,” she said.

In 2004, Nigeria adopted the National Policy on Population for Sustainable Development (NPP), with an end date of 2015 for most of its targets.

Nigeria’s population comes into fore as the nation enters a decade where it must grow the economy faster than the population and raise productivity to avoid hosting a quarter of the world’s poorest by 2030.

The commission head said the absence of a population census in years means the country has been groping in the dark and working based on estimates but insist the present administration is committed to addressing population issues.
