The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers linked to the abduction of students of the Faculty of Engineering, Nasarawa State University, Gudi Campus, and confirmed the safe release of the victims.
BusinessDay recalls that the students were abducted Tuesday night, last week, when gunmen invaded an off-campus lodge located at Anguwar Ninzo on the outskirts of Gudi in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The attackers reportedly stormed the lodge at about 9:00 p.m. and whisked away seven persons, including six engineering students of Nasarawa State University and one visitor, to an unknown destination.
Their release was contained in a statement signed by Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), on behalf of Shetima Jauro, the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa state command on Tuesday in Lafia.
“Following sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated tactical efforts by operatives of the Command, two suspected kidnappers linked to the incident have been arrested,” the statement said.
“The abducted students have been safely released and reunited with their families. The victims are currently receiving medical attention and necessary support following their ordeal,” the police added.
The suspects were identified as Abdullahi Yeyi Haro, alleged leader of the kidnapping syndicate, and Basiru Abdullahi, both said to be from Gudi community in Nasarawa State.
The command commended officers involved in the operation for what he described as professionalism, resilience and commitment toward ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
The command further assured the public that investigations were ongoing to arrest fleeing members of the syndicate and bring all those connected to the crime to justice, while urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and useful information.
