The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has said that several bandits were killed following an airstrike on Yauni Hill, Zakka Ward in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The operation, conducted by the Air Component of Operation FASAN YANMA on Saturday was launched to repel an attack on security personnel in the area.
In a statement signed by Olusola Akinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information, the airstrike was executed after credible intelligence revealed that bandits, who had earlier killed two Police Mobile Force (PMF) officers and four members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, were hiding on Yauni Hill.
“Upon arrival, the targets were identified and engaged, resulting in the neutralization of several bandits and the successful repelling of the attack on PMF and vigilante personnel,” the statement read.
According to NAF, the airstrike came in response to an earlier assault on a PMF location, where the bandits ambushed security operatives, causing fatalities and posing a significant threat to the local community.

However, reports of civilian casualties allegedly caused by the airstrikes have raised concerns. The force described the allegations as “deeply troubling” and assured the public that the NAF is taking the claims seriously.
“The NAF remains fully committed to uncovering the truth. While these claims are distressing, it is important to emphasize that they remain allegations until a comprehensive investigation is concluded,” he stated.
He reiterated the Air Force’s adherence to strict rules of engagement and international standards, emphasising that the force’s primary mission is the protection of Nigeria and its citizens.
In response to the allegations, Hasan Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff, ordered an immediate investigation to verify the claims and ensure appropriate action is taken if necessary.
The NAF appealed to the public to remain calm while the investigation unfolds, reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of innocent lives.
