Despite Arsenal’s impressive start in the 2023/24 Premier League season, former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has ruled out the chances of the Gunners winning the Premier League title this season.
Mourinho, who won three Premier Leagues with Chelsea, tipped Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City men to be crowned champions once again, despite sitting fourth on the table and five points behind Arsenal, who top the Premier League standing.
Gunners sit at the Premier League table with 39 points after 17 games, ahead of Liverpool and Aston Villa.
Mourinho, who is currently the coach of the Italian Serie A side AS Roma, also ruled his former club, Chelsea, out of the Premier League title race after their slow start under Mauricio Pochettino.
The 60-year-old Portuguese tactician, during a chat on The Obi One podcast, said Man City remain favourites to retain their Premier League title despite trailing league leaders Arsenal by five points, with Liverpool likely to be their closest rivals.
“I would say Man City 51 per cent, and Liverpool 49 per cent,” Mourinho said on The Obi One podcast. When asked whether Arsenal are in the running for the Premier League title, he replied with a simple “Nah”.
“Rivalry apart, I would like them to win,” he added. “Of course, Chelsea is not going to win. It is out of the question.
“Of course, Manchester United will not win it too. I won’t speak about Manchester United.
“But 51, 49. And I say 51, 49 because Man City has two teams when the accumulation of matches is coming.”
