The Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) and the World Bank have initiated discussions on a potential partnership to enhance the development of Nigeria’s mining sector.

The talks, held on August 15, focused on leveraging technology to improve efficiency and transparency in mining operations, as well as promoting sustainable practices, a statement by the agency said.

The statement noted that the partnership aims to strengthen the mining sector’s contribution to Nigeria’s economic growth and development.

Key areas of collaboration between the World Bank and the agency include digitalisation and transparency, sustainable practices and economic growth, it added.

The World Bank delegation praised the MCO’s efforts in transforming the mining sector through digitalisation and transparency initiatives.

The parties discussed ways to promote environmental protection and social responsibility in the mining sector.

The World Bank delegation expressed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development goals, particularly in the extractives sector.

The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding to explore potential partnership opportunities that would benefit the Nigerian mining sector and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
