Mass protest at CCT against Onnoghen’s trial

protesters-Code of Conduct Tribunal

There is mass protest going on currently outside the court room of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

The protest is against the arraignment of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), who is facing trial for failure to declare some of his assets.

The group, National Interest Defenders, according to the spokesman, Ugo Chinyere, consists of politicians from all parties, students, lawyers, civil society groups, among others.

Chinyere said: “Nigerians are up against a rampaging group of political barbarians, who like the wife of the President said have hijacked the presidency and now acting without limitations and willing to pull our country down, tear it apart and dump it in a state of political hiatus just for their vain aggrandizement and pecuniary benefits.”

The group accused the tribunal chairman, Umar Danladi, of a predetermined stance on Onnoghen’s trial, alleging he has been directed to make some certain orders at today’s sitting.
He said the nation will be thrown into a wide fire if the orders are granted.
