Maina to stay in prison until completion of trial, court rules

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday ruled that the runaway former boss of Presidential Pension Task Reform, Abdulrasheed Maina, who was rearrested in Niger Republic, be remanded at the Correctional Centre until the end of his trial.

The court had earlier on November 18 revoked his bail, having absented himself from the court for his trial in the N2bn laundering case instituted against him by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).

Maina was arrested in Niger Republic and sent back to the country on Thursday.

The remand order followed the application by the prosecution counsel, Mohammed Abubakar, urging the court to remand Maina at the Correctional Centre till the disposal of the case.

However, ruling in an application by a new counsel to Maina, Adaji Abel, asking for a short adjournment to enable him to look through the file, Justice Abang adjourned till December 8 for the continuation of trial.
