Looming war against Fubara: Rivers’ lawmakers loyal to Wike decamp to APC

Looming war against Fubara: Rivers’ lawmakers loyal to Wike decamp to APC

Twenty seven (27) PDP members of the Rivers State House of Assembly decamping to APC in Port Harcourt, Monday

The Rivers State capital shook this morning, Monday, December 11,;2023, with 27 out of the 32 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly staging a public demonstration at the Assembly grounds.

They announced decamping to the APC from the PDP that has ruled the state since 2019.

Their leader is the speaker, Martin Amaewhule. The lawmakers waved flags and chanted solidarity songs.

By this action, many say the war against Fubara looks set.

The lawmakers would form an opposition in parliament and the push against the government would start.

The ultimate goal is said to be to remove the governor and install the speaker.

Fubara has however, continued to say no sabotage would be able to make him fail to develop the state and defend his mandate.

This begins a realignment of political forces in the state.

Wike began by getting the Amaechi-dominated APC EXCO out and replacing it with a caretaker committee headed by his most trusted ally, Tony Okocha.

The committee is to dissolve all old memberships and reregister willing members, a tact many say is meant to wipe off Amaechi and his sympathisers.
Already, all political slots meant for the state have been handed by President, Bola Tinubu to Wike and his camp.
