Liberia: Tinubu hails Weah’s sportsmanship, congratulates Boakai

President Bola Tinubu has commended outgoing President George Weah of Liberia for his unique sportsmanship in conceding victory to the opposition, led by the President-elect, Joseph Boakai.

He also congratulated the government and people of Liberia on the successful conduct of the Liberian Presidential Election, according to Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.

The President also congratulated President-elect Joseph Boakai, who won the people’s mandate, enabling him to unite the country and build on the popular support expressed through the ballot box to deliver good governance to the people of Liberia.

President Tinubu hailed President George Weah for demonstrating uncommon leadership by conceding the election and averting any socio-political crisis.

Tinubu described President Weah’s great act of democratic sportsmanship as ” exemplary, particularly in West Africa, when malign actors attack democracy bent on subverting the people’s will.

“I commend President George Weah for his sterling example, undiluted patriotism, and statesmanship.

He has defied the stereotype that peaceful transitions of power are untenable in West Africa.

According to him, ” Weah has also demonstrated that the outcome of elections in the sub-region need not become the propellant of violence and unrest and that the will of the people must always be respected,” the President states.

Tinubu said the people of Liberia peacefully exercised their rights, even as he implored them to remain steadfast in furthering peace and democracy.
