Frank Idehen Osifo, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Edo South Senatorial District, has said that the party would win the election slated for the 2027, only if members are united.
Osifo stated this while addressing party faithful on arrival from Abuja at the Benin Airport on Tuesday.
He appealed to members of the party to bury their differences and work together to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election.
He said only a united PDP could liberate the people from what he described as the shackles of bad governance.
Osifo, who noted that insecurity had taken over the nooks and crannies of the country under the APC-led Federal and State Governments, added that with quality legislation, the challenges would become a thing of the past
According to him, “I was born and raised in Benin like many of you, and I’m here today running for the Edo South senatorial seat at the National Assembly. I want to say that this election is not about me. It’s about that graduate on the streets of Benin aspiring for greater opportunities.
“It’s for that trader on the streets of Benin doing everything daily to feed their family. It’s for that farmer investing time and other resources to ensure that the communities of Edo South Senatorial District are fed. It’s about people who believe that it is time for us to take a transformative step to ensure that the emancipation of our people is achieved.
“I’m a candidate that intends to bring all the forces together. I’m a bridge builder, not a wall builder. I’m not going to build walls against anybody. What happened during the primaries is behind us. We all have to come together now, be united, and ensure that as one force, we perform well in the forthcoming election.”
Osifo, who said the lawmakers that had represented the Senatorial District in the past had become disconnected from the people, however, pledged to be different and remain more connected to the grassroots.
He said he would be an accessible senator who would listen to the demands of the electorate and bring development to the doorsteps of the people across the district.
“Across the board, infrastructural deficits and security challenges have been impeding our farmers from going to their farms.
“Even though legislative business is to make laws that will better the lives of our people, we can sponsor bills that will guarantee the security and safety of our people, enabling them to carry on with their businesses and return to their farms,” he added.
Osifo, however, commended members of the PDP for electing him as the party’s flag bearer, assuring them that with their support and unity, the party would emerge victorious in the election.
