Lagos treads Sweden’s path in food hub creation

We are creating hub to boost access to food — Lagos

Femi Hamzat, deputy governor of Lagos State

Femi Hamzat, deputy governor of Lagos state, has said the state is building a food and logistics hub in Ketu. The hub will sit on 132 hectares of land and it will have an enormous area of agricultural products.

The deputy governor said this at the Nordic Nigeria Connect 2023 Thursday in Lagos. He also the idea was from Sweden, one of the Nordic countries at the event.

“We took that idea from Sweden, where they have a hub where they distribute flour around the world and it is a huge business,” Hamzat said.

Central Logistics Park is a logistics centre under construction in Ketu-Ereyun, between Epe and Ikorodu. It will be the largest food logistics centre in sub-Saharan Africa when completed.

This is located at a facility site being built on 1.2 million square meters of land in Ketu-Ereyun, Epe.

According to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State governor, the facility would cut out several layers of middlemen and facilitate improved access to modern processing and packaging services.

Hamzat, deputy governor of Lagos state stated that in terms of climate change, Lagos is planning for sustainable energy production.

“Lagos has done a lot of study on energy mix, what can we get from solar, some of those studies were done given with interaction with Nomadic countries, but we can look at how to implement based on our relationships,” he said.
