Kogi Assembly suspends LG Chairman over criminal allegations

The Kogi State House of Assembly on Wednesday suspended the Executive Chairman of Kogi Local Government, Abdulkareem Isah Sanni over an alleged criminal involvement while in office.

The suspension of Sanni was sequel to a resolution by members of the house when the Speaker of the Assembly Prince Mathew Kolawole read a letter from Governor Bello indicting the council boss of alleged criminal activities.

In his ruling, Kolawole said the suspension of the council boss will last pending the outcome of the Department of State Service (DSS) investigation.

However, he directed that the Vice Chairman of the Local Government Hasana Jezhi should step in as acting chairman.

Cosmos Atabor member representing Igalamela Odolu Constituency before the speaker ruling noted that since there was an indictment on the council boss, it will not be right for him to continue in office.

Meanwhile, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has sent over N30billion supplementary budget to Kogi State House of Assembly for approval. It was, however, referred to the House Committee on Budget and Finance to act upon.
