Worried by the escalating violence during the nationwide protest, Karu Local Government Council in Nasarawa State, a suburb in the nation’s capital has declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the council area.
James Thomas, the chairman of the Local government made this known in a statement signed by Uba Magaji, the Special Senior Adviser on Media and Publicity to the chairman issued in Abuja, on Thursday.
Magaji said the curfew takes effect immediately, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., until further notice.
He explained that the curfew is a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring the security of Karu. He emphasized that during the curfew hours, the movement of people, motorcyclists, tricyclists, motorists, and the operation of all shops in Karu would be restricted.

The imposition of the curfew follows a wave of protests against the prevailing hardship and perceived bad governance in the country.
On the first day of the protests, demonstrators blocked the Keffi-Abuja highway, preventing motorists from entering or leaving the Keffi metropolis.
In addition to blocking the highway, protesters in their hundreds set fire to car tyres and threatened to assault motorists who refused to turn back.
The situation remains tense as the authorities work to restore order and address the concerns raised by the protesters.
