A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna has sentenced Mustapha Aminu, a 36-year-old driver, to 15 strokes of the cane for assaulting a police officer on duty.
Aminu, a resident of Ungwan Sanusi, Kaduna, was found guilty of striking Adamu Maigari (Sergeant) on the head with a log of wood. He pleaded guilty to the charge.
Delivering the ruling on Thursday, Ibrahim Emmanuel, the Magistrate emphasised that the punishment was intended to underscore the seriousness of the offence and deter others from similar acts.

“This will also serve as a warning to others who may consider committing such crimes. I hereby order a court official to administer 15 strokes of the cane,” Emmanuel declared.
He further cautioned Aminu to desist from such actions and focus on his work to become a responsible member of society.
The prosecution, led by Chidi Leo (Inspector), told the court that the incident occurred on January 29 at about 2 p.m.
According to Leo, Aminu had been driving recklessly, and when Sergeant Maigari attempted to stop him, he reacted violently by striking the officer with a piece of wood.
Leo stated that Aminu’s actions violated Section 237 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
