Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has reacted to the disruption that occurred during the presentation of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) 2025 budget to the Joint Committees on Police Affairs and Police Institutions at the National Assembly says it is”unnecessary and avoidable.”
In a statement released by the Force Spokesman, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP clarified that two versions of the budget document—comprehensive and abridged—were provided to committee members before the presentation.
He noted that both versions contained the same figures and information, with the abridged version written in simpler language to facilitate understanding.
According to the statement, at the start of the session, all committee members agreed that the IGP would present the abridged version.

“Onyekachi Nwoebonyi, Senator representing Ebonyi North, who arrived late, began referencing the comprehensive version, despite the prior agreement and clarification from other committee members.
“The senator’s refusal to accept the explanation led to his abrupt departure from the session”, the statement reads.
The IGP described the situation as unnecessary drama, emphasizing that it could have been avoided if the senator had been more receptive to the clarifications offered.
Egbetokun also dismissed reports circulating in the media, stating that the NPF had not submitted two different budget proposals for 2025, as was erroneously claimed.
The IGP highlighted the ongoing challenges facing the Nigeria Police Force, including inadequate funding, restrictive budgetary constraints, and delays in fund releases, all of which have hindered the Force’s modernization and service delivery capabilities.
Egbetokun urged the public to continue supporting the Police as they remain committed to serving with professionalism and dedication.
