No fewer than five persons have been killed following a fresh attack by gunmen in the Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday night, has heightened tension across the community, with residents expressing deep concern over the deteriorating security situation.

A resident of the area who spoke to BusinessDay on condition of anonymity said the victims were on their way home at about 9 p.m. when they were ambushed by the assailants.

According to him, the gunmen opened fire on the unsuspecting victims without any form of warning, leaving several people fatally wounded.

“Four persons were killed on the spot, while another victim later died in the hospital,” he said.

Rwang Tengwong, the Publicity Secretary of Berom Youth Moulders Association, also confirmed the incident to BusinessDay on Monday in Jos, describing the attack as unfortunate and condemnable.

He called on security agencies to intensify efforts in safeguarding lives and property in the area, stressing the need to prevent further attacks.

Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Plateau State Police Command, was not available to confirm the killings, as his phone lines were unreachable at the time of filing this report.
