Gregory University offers automatic employment, scholarship to 8 first-class graduates

Gregory University, Uturu, Abia State has awarded automatic lecturing appointments to eight graduating students, who bagged first-class honours degrees.The first-class scholars and other best graduating students from different departments of the institution were equally offered scholarship up to Ph.D level.

Augustine Uwakwe, a professor, and vice chancellor of Gregory University, disclosed this in his address during the 8th Convocation ceremony of the institution.

He hinted that out of 217 students, who graduated from the university at its 8th convocation, Eyamba Mighty Edim of Law Department, emerged the best graduating student, with 4.71 CGPA.

The vice chancellor encouraged the graduating students to utilize the knowledge they acquired during their undergraduate days, to develop the larger Nigerian and global societies.

Uwakwe explained that the institution had signed teachers and scholars’ exchange agreement with institutions from USA, Russia, Canada China, among others.

The vice chancellor further disclosed that the school had assumed global outlook, with nationals of USA, Togo, Ukraine, Guinea Bissau now studying in Gregory University.

“This institution now boasts of various centres of excellence such as centre for leadership training, West African Green Energy Development Institute (WAGEDI), Centre for Pharmacognosy, Traditional and Alternative Medicine, Centre for National Security and Research, Centre for Drugs Control and Research, Centre for Igbo Renaissance, Centre for Data Sciences and artificial intelligence, Centre for Nanotechnology Research, Centre for Criminology and Law enforcement studies, Centre for immigration laws studies, as well as TERTFUND/Skill G Centre for Merchrothronics, autotronics and refrigeration engaged in training of Engineering Technologist and Technicians.

” Recently, we launched the UN Centre for transformative advancement in Africa, the first of its kind in Africa”, said the vice chancellor.

In addition, the vice chancellor said his school had witnessed great infrastructural growth since the last convocation, even as he appealed to the friends of the institution to support it.

In his own address, the chancellor of the university, Okechukwu Ikechuckwu Ibe (Jnr), said that first set of medical students had been inducted while the first set of law graduates from GUU had finished at the Nigerian Law School.

In her speech, the best graduating student, Eyamba Mighty Edim of the Department of Law, who scored 4.71 CGPA, appreciated the management of Gregory University, Uturu for impacting knowledge in her, promising to make the school proud on the national and international platforms.
